Peak Web

The period when the World Wide Web was at its finest. Accepted by Swhack convention as 1999.

Peak Web was when everyone made their own sites, mostly by hand-hacking the HTML source. Web sites tended to be about a particular topic, whereas today they’re collections of miscellany around the contours of ideas that interested a particular person.

Note to Peak Web revivalists: autoplay audio on random web pages is still as annoying as it was 15 years ago. Being popular during the greatest period in the Web’s history doesn’t automatically make it great.
